Backcountry always has 7 to 9 of its handcrafted beers on tap for your enjoyment.  We brew 5 of these beers on a continuous basis so they are always available.  In addition, we have 2 - 4 specialty seasonal beers for you to try.   The Beer at Backcountry is born out of 30 combined years of brewing experience.   It has been recognized four times by the prestigious Great American Beer Festival.  The GABF is widely regarded in the beer world as the most important beer event of the year.  A GABF medal is recognized world wide as a symbol of brewing excellence.

In 2005, Colorado Trail English Ale, Gold

In 2004, Ptarmigan Pilsner, Silver

In 2000, our Telemark IPA STRUCK GOLD by winning first place in the most competitive category - American Pale Ale, with 104 entries.

In 1998, our Mai Bock spring beer was awarded a bronze medal in the Bock category.

Backcountry Beer is only available in Summit County and select liquor stores in Denver and the Vail Valley.  Beer to go is available in 22 oz. bottles and in "party pigs".  Don't miss your next opportunity to try one of the nation's best.

"Telemark" (I.P.A.) Gold Medal Winner 2000 GABF

This beer is an American version of an English classic.  We use generous amounts of pale and lightly kilned malts to produce deep golden color and full-bodied flavor.  The real story behind this beer though, is the bitterness, aroma, and flavor from Washington States finest hops, and we use a lot of them-Hopheads rejoice!

Original Gravity – 14° Plato      Alcohol by volume – 5.6%      Bitterness – 60 I.B.U.’s       SRM – 10.8

"Peak One" Porter

Our interpretation of this style yields a beer with dark, rich color and complex flavor born out of a combination of 6 malts.  We balance all of this with some of the Northwest’s finest hops.  Our porter is often described as creamy in texture yet not roasted or burnt like a stout.  Liquid bread indeed!

Original Gravity – 15° Plato      Alcohol by volume – 6.0%      Bitterness – 35 I.B.U.’s       SRM – 70.6

"Switchback" Amber

If Oktoberfest was an ale, this is what it would taste like.  This beer is our number one seller due to its drink-ability.  Deep copper color and medium body are complimented by subtle spiciness from noble variety hops.  All of this in a remarkably smooth beer worth coming back for again and again.

Original Gravity – 13.5° Plato      Alcohol by volume – 5.4/%      Bitterness – 28 I.B.U.’s       SRM – 16.0

"Ptarmigan" Pilsner  Silver Medal Winner 2004

Our Pilsner is made with 100% malted barley, a rarity these days.  It is light in color, body, and alcohol.  We use a very special fermentation routine to give this beer an exceptionally smooth flavor, and just the right amount of noble hops for a balanced yet distinctive hop character.

Original Gravity – 11.5.° Plato      Alcohol by volume – 4.7 %      Bitterness – 42 I.B.U.’s       SRM – 3.1

"Wheeler" Wheat

The Wheeler Wheat is our latest mainstay and is a result of input from our staff and customers.  People wanted refreshment and Wheeler Wheat is all about that.  It's an American-style wheat with 45% malted wheat and select specialty malts.  It has a pleasantly mild hop profile and has been enhanced with orange peel and coriander for added refreshment.  Enjoy it anytime.

Original Gravity – 11.5.° Plato      Alcohol by volume – 4.6 %      Bitterness – 18 I.B.U.’s       SRM – 3.6
